FEC Approves €161m Power Projects to Boost Electricity Supply

The Federal Executive Council has approved contracts worth €161 million under the Presidential Power Initiative to enhance Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure.  

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, announced the decision after Monday’s council meeting in Abuja, highlighting plans to upgrade 14 substations and construct 21 new ones nationwide.

The initiative aims to increase operational electricity capacity to 12,000 megawatts within four years, with a short-term target of 8,000 megawatts over the next 12 to 24 months.  

Key project sites include Onitsha, Abeokuta, and Sokoto, reflecting a strategic approach to strengthening the national grid.
