Federal Government Eyes 3 Million Barrels Daily Oil Output by 2025

The government is targeting a crude oil production milestone of three million barrels per day by 2025, according to Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources – Oil.

Speaking in Port Harcourt on Monday, Mr. Lokpobiri lauded the success of Operation Delta Sanity, OPDS, an anti-oil theft initiative led by the Nigerian Navy. He noted that the programme, launched in January, has already bolstered output figures, prompting the rollout of a second phase.

The minister emphasised the economic benefits of tackling oil theft, including increased government revenue and greater financial allocations to states and local governments.

Mr. Lokpobiri urged collaboration from security agencies, maritime operators, traditional rulers, and local youths to support the navy’s efforts in safeguarding the nation’s critical oil infrastructure.
