The Federal Government has assured shea industry stakeholders that it will review the temporary ban on raw shea nut exports introduced in August 2025. The policy was aimed at promoting local processing and adding value toNigeria’s shea products industry.
Industry stakeholders, including processors, exporters and rural women involved in the value chain, took part in a validation session in Abuja convened by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment. Minister Jumoke Oduwole said the review will guide whether to extend, adjust or defer the export ban. She promised that the ministry will present a balanced briefing to President Bola Tinubu.
Nigeria accounts for a significant portion of global shea production but contributes a small share of processed exports. Vice President Kashim Shettima said the policy was not anti-trade but aimed at strengthening domestic industrial capacity.

Oduwole said the government recognises stakeholders’ right to livelihoods and will consider all submissions before a final decision. The review is expected to strike a balance between encouraging local value addition and protecting producers’ incomes.
