Federal Government Reports Gains in Crackdown on Criminal Networks

Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu

The Federal Government says recent coordinated security operations have led to major breakthroughs against criminal and terrorist groups across the country.

Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu, told journalists in Abuja that under the campaign ‘Disrupting Criminal Networks and Securing Communities’, over 2,000 suspects were arrested and 175 kidnap victims rescued in 326 police-led operations.

The campaign also saw the neutralisation of 78 terror suspects and the dismantling of six arms trafficking syndicates.

The NDLEA, in its operations, seized nearly 3 million kilograms of illicit drugs and conducted over 1,500 raids.

Community peacebuilding efforts by the NSCDC reportedly resolved 720 local conflicts, while the FRSC recorded 2,838 road crash-related deaths—largely blamed on reckless driving.

Officials say the results reflect a shift towards intelligence-driven security, stronger inter-agency coordination, and increased investment in training and equipment.
