Federal High Court Abuja Adjourns Nnamdi Kanu’s N1bn Suit Against FG, DSS Again

A Federal High Court in Abuja has again adjourned a fresh N1 billion suit filed by Mr. Nnamdi Kanu against the Federal Government until March 18 for hearing.

Recall that on January 8, Justice James Omotosho, the sitting judge, fixed the hearing for today when no lawyer represented Mr. Kanu in court.

Upon resumed hearing, counsel to the defence, I.I. Hassan, told the court that they were yet to be served with processes in the matter. This was countered by Mr. Kanu’s lawyer, Alloy Ejimakor, who said everything needed for the service of their processes on the defence had been perfected.

Justice Omotosho subsequently adjourned the matter until March 18 for the plaintiff to serve the defence in the suit.

Mr. Nnamdi Kanu is seeking damages in the sum of N1 billion for the mental, emotional, psychological and other damages he says he suffered as a result of his rights’ breach at the DSS facility where he is detained.

The alleged breaches include the forcible seizure and photocopying of confidential legal documents concerning the preparation of his defence; the alleged refusal or prevention of his counsel from taking notes of details of counsel’s discussions & consultations with him at DSS detention; the alleged act of eavesdropping on his confidential consultations/conversations with his lawyers on matters relating to the preparation of his defence. He says the acts are illegal, unlawful, unconstitutional and constituted an infringement of his fundamental right to fair hearing.
