The Coalition of Federal Pensioners of Nigeria has threatened to hold a nationwide naked protest on 6 October over unpaid arrears and palliatives. The group announced the planned demonstration during a press conference in Lagos.
National chairman Mukaila Ogunbote said pensioners had given the government until September to settle outstanding arrears, increments, and palliatives. He said the protest would symbolically expose government failures, noting that while workers received a 35,000 naira palliative within a month of President Bola Tinubu’s approval in 2023, pensioners are still awaiting their 25,000 naira payment.

Ogunbote added that Tinubu had also directed a 13,000 naira pension increase, but this was omitted from the 2024 and 2025 budgets. He described the exclusion as injustice, pointing out that pensioners had requested six months’ arrears, while workers had received 10 months of additional payments.
Some retirees, including Fashola Oluwo and Dupe Ogunniyi, spoke of hardship, rising living costs, and deaths among colleagues awaiting payment. They appealed to the First Lady to intervene with the president on their behalf.
