The Federal Government has approved the disbursement of N32 billion to health facilities under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund. Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, announced this on Tuesday after a ministerial oversight committee meeting in Abuja.
Pate stated that the committee reviewed performance in primary health care, including immunisation coverage, and noted that funds are reaching the intended facilities. He added that the number of facilities benefiting from direct funding will soon increase by 5,000.
The minister also said the committee reviewed tariffs for emergency ambulance services and agreed to increase rates to encourage more effective responses from providers. The minister highlighted that the President’s decision to make treatment for emergency obstetric complications free is saving lives, with more than 40,000 women having had emergency services reimbursed.

He also disclosed that the free fistula treatment programme has reached more than 4,000 women. On disease outbreaks, Pate said Nigeria continues to record multiple outbreaks each year, but most are contained early through surveillance and rapid response.
