An outbreak of diphtheria in Kano State, Nigeria, has claimed at least 25 lives as of January 13, 2023.
The disease, which is easily preventable through vaccination, was first recorded in the state in late 2022 and is being treated as an outbreak at Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital and Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.
At least 58 suspected cases of the disease have been documented, and medical personnel from the National Centre for Disease Control have been deployed to the state to help contain the outbreak.
