The Federal Government says non-academic staff members of universities will get half of their withheld salaries should President Bola Tinubu approve the payment of their salary arrears.
Speaking on a television programme monitored by Radio Now’s Newsdesk, the Education Minister, Tahir Mamman, who cited miscommunication, said there wasn’t a deliberate plan to exclude them from benefiting from the arrears. He also said the government is doing everything possible to get relief for members of the associations.

According to the minister, there is a court judgement on no-work-no-pay, and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, getting four months’ pay was a discretionary decision taken by the President, which, he says, doesn’t automatically transfer to the Non Academic Staff Union Of Educational And Associated Institutions, NASU, and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU.
In March, SSANU and NASU members embarked on a seven-day warning strike protesting their withheld salaries by the Federal Government. The two unions called out the Federal Government for paying withheld salaries to ASUU while neglecting the non-academic unions.
