FG Fulfils Pledge to Late Flag Designer’s Family with N30m Donation

The Federal Government has honoured the late Taiwo Akinkunmi, designer of the Nigerian flag, with a N30 million donation to his family. 

Mr Akinkunmi, who passed away on August 30, 2023, at the age of 87, was promised a national burial and financial support by President Bola Tinubu. A delegation led by Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, visited the family on September 4, 2023, to convey the President’s pledge.

After a delay, the late Mr Akinkunmi was finally buried by his family on September 6, 2024, exactly one year after his death. 

On Thursday, the N30 million cheque was formally presented to his family in Ibadan by Lanre Issa-Onilu, Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, and Olukemi Afolayan, Oyo State director of the agency, fulfilling the government’s financial pledge.
