FG opens Enugu–Onitsha highway section to ease Easter traffic

The Federal Government has opened a 15-kilometre stretch of the 9th Mile–Abakpa section of the Enugu–Onitsha highway to ease traffic during the Easter period. The Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced this on Thursday while inspecting the project at the Ugwu-Onyeama axis in Enugu State.

Umahi said the decision is a special intervention to provide immediate relief to commuters, noting that travel between Enugu and Onitsha previously took over seven hours due to the poor condition of the road. He expressed confidence that the full project will be completed on schedule.

The minister also highlighted other infrastructure projects in the South-East, including sections of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, the dualisation of the Enugu–Abakaliki road, and the reconstruction of the Afikpo–Abia–Okigwe corridor. He added that major national projects like the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway will improve connectivity to the region.
