Fg Rejects Us Congressmen’s Claims Of Religious Persecution

The Federal Government says there is no religious persecution in Nigeria. Information Minister Mohammed Idris made the clarification following a report by US Congressmen, which was submitted to US President Donald Trump on Monday. The report alleged persecution of Christians and highlighted extremist violence in the country.

The US Congressmen, including Riley Moore and Tom Cole, say they conducted investigations and assessments before submitting their findings. According to them, the engagements helped provide a clearer understanding of insecurity and challenges facing Christian communities in Nigeria.

Minister Idris stressed that Nigeria has no policy targeting any religious group. He said the violence affecting parts of the country is driven by terrorism, banditry, and communal conflicts, not government policy or religious bias.

He also reaffirmed that the Constitution guarantees freedom of religion and worship for all citizens. The Minister said Nigeria remains committed to protecting all citizens, maintaining its partnership with the United States, and engaging international partners through diplomatic channels.
