The Federal Government has secured ₦700 billion to roll out two million electricity meters annually over the next five years under the Presidential Metering Initiative. Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu announced this at the 2025 Nigerian Energy Forum in Lagos, noting that the fund was sourced from the Federation Account Allocation Committee.
The initiative, he said, would close Nigeria’s metering gap, enhance transparency, and stabilise the power sector. It complements 3.2 million meters being procured through the World Bank’s Distribution Sector Recovery Programme. Over $2 billion has also been mobilised to boost renewable energy projects.
