The Federal Government says it is working to implement the National Single Window system at Nigerian ports by 2026. Vice President Kashim Shettima said the policy will harmonise port documentation, reduce human contact, and improve transparency in cargo clearance.
Speaking at the second meeting of the Ports and Customs Efficiency Committee at the Presidential Villa, Shettima described the initiative as a “game changer” aimed at reducing cargo clearance time to under seven days. He said the goal is to make Nigerian ports rank among the top three most efficient trade gateways in Africa.
The Vice President lamented that inefficiencies at Nigerian ports make cargo clearance 30 per cent more expensive than in neighbouring countries. He directed agencies including the NPA, Customs, NAFDAC, and SON to develop a unified framework to ensure fairness and accurate measurement in trade.

Shettima also expressed confidence that the pending Executive Order on Joint Physical Inspection will eliminate bottlenecks and foster inter-agency collaboration. He urged all port-related agencies to work together to improve efficiency and make Nigeria’s ports globally competitive.
