FG targets job-rich growth for youths through economic reforms

State Revenues Doubled After Subsidy Removal, Wale Edun Reveals

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, says the Federal Government’s economic reforms are aimed at inclusive, job-rich growth for young people, with a focus on digital work opportunities.

Speaking at Nigeria House during the 2026 World Economic Forum in Davos, Edun outlined the government’s reform agenda, highlighting fiscal discipline, macroeconomic stability and efforts to create a predictable and investor-friendly economic environment. He said Nigeria is positioning itself as a destination for sustainable, long-term investment.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance spokesperson, Osagie Jacobs, the minister said Nigeria has recorded progress in manufacturing value chains, micro, small and medium enterprises, and expanded energy access. He added that the country has moved from stabilisation to consolidation, embedding reforms that support private sector-led growth and strengthen institutions.

Edun’s comments follows a January 2026 update by the International Monetary Fund, which said Nigeria’s macroeconomic stabilisation efforts are beginning to yield results. The IMF revised growth projections for Sub-Saharan Africa upward, citing Nigeria among key economies where recent policy adjustments are contributing to improved growth prospects.
