The Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, says preparations for the 2026 Detty December festivities will begin as early as March. Speaking in an interview, she said the federal government is reviewing the 2025 season, which she described as having delivered more gains than drawbacks, particularly in tourism inflow.
Musawa said key challenges during the festive period included inadequate accommodation, price inflation by service providers and traffic congestion in Lagos. She said the government plans to address these issues through better regulation, infrastructure development and increased funding, while also expanding end of year activities beyond Lagos to other states such as Cross River, Enugu and Plateau.

She added that a proposal would be presented to the Federal Executive Council from March to coordinate inter ministerial efforts ahead of the 2026 festivities. The minister also said improved airport facilities and increased investment in hotels and road infrastructure would be critical to sustaining Nigeria’s appeal as a December travel destination.
