The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed an agreement with the United Kingdom to receive deported failed asylum seekers and convicted criminals. The development was confirmed by Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, as part of ongoing cooperation between both countries on migration management.
Tunji-Ojo said the agreement will allow UK authorities to return Nigerian nationals who have exhausted their asylum claims or have been convicted of crimes. He explained that the arrangement includes processes for identification, documentation, and structured repatriation.

According to the minister, the deal is aimed at ensuring orderly migration and strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
He added that the government is working to ensure that returns are handled in line with international standards.
