FG Warns Seven States Still at Risk of Flooding

The Federal Government has warned that some communities along the Rivers Niger and Benue may still experience flooding before the rainy season ends. States at risk include Benue, Kogi, Kebbi, Adamawa, Delta, Bayelsa, and Anambra.

Director-General of the Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency, Umar Ibrahim Mohammed, issued the warning in Abuja, urging residents in low-lying areas to relocate to higher ground or designated camps.

He said water levels along the rivers remain high despite the approaching end of the rainy season, increasing the likelihood of localised flooding in vulnerable areas.

The agency also cautioned that shallow wells in parts of Kogi and Kebbi have been contaminated by the floods, warning that consuming the water could cause disease outbreaks.
