The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri, has confirmed the federal government’s commitment to reviving the long-abandoned Atlantic refinery project in Brass, Bayelsa State. The minister made this announcement following his inspection visit to the Ewa-ama Road, which leads to the Brass Petroleum Products Terminal (BPPT).
Lokpobiri emphasised that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is dedicated to fulfilling its developmental goals, with a particular focus on infrastructure and energy projects that benefit the Niger Delta region. He reaffirmed the government’s drive to advance key projects that will enhance the region’s economic and social development.

The minister’s statement aligns with recent progress made by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC). On November 26, 2024, NNPC confirmed that crude oil processing had begun at the Port Harcourt refinery. Similarly, in December, NNPC’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, reported that the Warri refinery had commenced production, though rehabilitation work is still ongoing.
