The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has highlighted the importance of the newly launched 40 Judges’ Quarters project in Abuja’s Katampe District. Speaking at the flag-off ceremony on Monday, she said the initiative would improve the welfare and performance of judicial officers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

While asserting that a conducive living environment is essential for judges to focus on their heavy responsibilities, Justice Kekere-Ekun stressed that peace of mind, security, and comfort in their residences are critical for judges to carry out their duties effectively.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, while speaking at the event, underscored the importance of providing a robust welfare package for judicial officers, including housing. He said 70% of the project’s funds had already been released, following approval by the Federal Executive Council.

The housing units will be distributed among the FCT High Court, Federal High Court, and Court of Appeal, with 20, 10, and 10 units allocated to each, respectively.
