Referees at this year’s FIFA Club World Cup will wear body cameras for the first time, as part of a trial aimed at enhancing broadcast coverage and coaching analysis. FIFA confirmed the move on Tuesday, following approval by the sport’s rule-making body, IFAB.
Pierluigi Collina, chairman of FIFA’s referees committee, said the innovation offers fans a fresh viewing angle and adds value for training purposes. He described the trial as a step towards bringing viewers closer to the action.

FIFA also announced new measures to tackle time-wasting by goalkeepers. Under the updated rules, shot-stoppers who hold the ball for more than eight seconds could concede a corner kick — a change from the current six-second limit that is seldom enforced.
The expanded 32-team Club World Cup kicks off in the United States on 14 June and will run until 13 July.
