Finidi George Keeps Title Hopes Alive as Rivers United Close Gap

Rivers United boss Finidi George insists the title race is far from over, as his side narrowed the gap on league leaders Remo Stars with a vital 1-0 win in Port Harcourt.

The result trims the deficit to five points with six games remaining in the 2024–25 Nigeria Premier Football League season. It marked a rare setback for Remo Stars, whose consistent form this campaign has put them on the brink of becoming the first privately-owned club in over a decade to lift the NPFL title.

Despite the loss, the Ikenne-based outfit remain top on 60 points and can re-establish their lead when they face Lobi Stars in a rescheduled midweek clash in Enugu.

The 53 year old Finidi George, who returned to club management after a brief stint with the national team, previously steered Enyimba to league success in 2023. He now seeks another crown with Rivers United, the club rooted in his own playing past.
