A Finnish district court has scheduled May 2025 as the deadline for prosecutors to file charges against Simon Ekpa, a pro-Biafra agitator recently arrested in Finland. Ekpa is accused of spreading terrorist propaganda on social media, a crime allegedly committed in 2021 in Finland’s Lahti municipality.
The Finnish National Bureau of Investigation confirmed ongoing probes into Ekpa’s activities, including allegations of instigating violence and inciting terror in Nigeria’s south-east through his social media platforms. He was remanded in custody by the Päijät-Häme district court after his arrest last Thursday.

Nigerian authorities are seeking Ekpa’s extradition to face prosecution at home, citing his dual citizenship with Finland and Nigeria. Senior Detective Superintendent Mikko Laaksonen stated that a remand review could be requested within the next two weeks if either Finnish authorities or Ekpa’s legal team seek a court re-evaluation.
