A major fire broke out at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, prompting the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to temporarily close the airspace and suspend flight operations.
The blaze is said to have started in the server room on the first floor of the terminal, leading to emergency responders being deployed to contain the situation and protect airport infrastructure.
Nigerian Airspace Management Agency officials said aircraft were prevented from landing or taking off while the incident was ongoing. Emergency crews worked to extinguish the fire and carry out rescue operations at the scene.
A total of 14 personnel who were initially trapped inside the affected areas were safely evacuated, and six people sustained injuries but are reported to be in stable condition.
