An early morning fire has razed parts of Singer Market, a major commodity market in Kano, located along Bello Road in the state capital.
The fire broke out at about 5:00 a.m. on Monday and was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, who said firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene.
Mr Abdullahi said personnel of the service worked to bring the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to other sections of the market.

Shop owners rushed to the market to salvage their goods, as preliminary reports indicate that commodities worth millions of naira were destroyed in the fire; Singer Market supplies food items to several northern states and neighbouring countries.
