Authorities in Nigeria have confirmed that five of the 12 inmates who escaped from a medium-security custodial centre in Koton Karfe, Kogi State, have been recaptured.
The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) said a manhunt was launched immediately after the incident, with security personnel deployed to restore order at the facility.

Following the jailbreak, the Acting Controller-General of NCoS, Sylvester Nwakuche, mobilised security operatives in coordination with senior officials, including the governor’s special adviser on security. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining fugitives.
Officials maintain that custodial facilities remain secure, with additional measures now being put in place to prevent further breaches.
