Five soldiers and a police officer have been killed after gunmen ambushed security forces along the Bingi-Kekun Waje-Gusau Road in Zamfara State. The attack happened on Monday as troops were returning from an operation in the state.
The troops were part of Operation Fansan Yamma, which had conducted a three-day operation across Birnin Magaji and Anka areas of Zamfara. The operation reportedly led to the arrest of three suspects and the killing of four terrorists.
In a statement, the media information officer of Operation Fansan Yamma, Captain David Adewusi, said the ambush occurred at Gidan Wagni while the troops were responding to a distress call. He said the soldiers engaged the attackers and prevented further harm to nearby communities.

He added that the counter-ambush forced the attackers to withdraw, with intelligence reports indicating that bandit leaders Janwuya and Alhaji Bello were seriously injured during the encounter.
