Floods Kill at Least 42 People in Kenya

At least 42 people have died in severe floods across Kenya, including 26 in the capital, Nairobi, after days of heavy rains.

Floodwaters swept through low-lying neighbourhoods, submerging homes and carrying away vehicles, while roads and infrastructure were heavily damaged.

President William Ruto has deployed emergency responders, including soldiers, to assist in rescue operations and ordered the immediate release of relief food from national reserves.

Authorities also announced that hospital bills for those injured in the floods will be covered, as the government works to ease the impact on affected households. Scientists warn that climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of such extreme weather events across East Africa.
