Former FMBN Chief’s Trial Adjourned to May
Gimba Kumo Ya’u, former head of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria

The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the trial of former Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria chief, Gimba Kumo Ya’u, and four others, to May 7, 2025.

Justice James Omotosho granted the adjournment following a request from the defence, citing the bereavement of lead counsel Tawo Tawo SAN. The case, brought by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, involves the alleged diversion of $65 million earmarked for a housing project in Abuja’s Kubwa district.

The prosecution was prepared to proceed with five witnesses, but the court accepted the defence’s plea for time, with Justice Omotosho urging legal teams to avoid further delays. He reminded junior counsel to be thoroughly prepared in such instances.

Mr Ya’u, along with Bola Ogunsola, Tarry Rufus, Good Earth Power Nigeria Ltd, and T-Brend Fortunes Ltd, is accused of conspiracy and fraud.

Further hearings are now scheduled for May 7, 9, and 12.
