Former Israeli Soldier Flees Brazil Amid War Crimes Allegations

A former Israeli soldier abruptly left Brazil after facing allegations of war crimes during his service in Gaza. The case, filed by the Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF), accuses the soldier of involvement in widespread destruction of civilian homes during military operations.

Last week, a Brazilian judge ordered an investigation into the claims, citing Brazil’s obligations as a Rome Statute signatory to address war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.

HRF’s lawyer, Maira Pinheiro, emphasized Brazil’s responsibility to ensure accountability for such acts. The HRF, a pro-Palestinian NGO, says it aims to challenge what it labels as ‘Israeli military impunity’, and memorialize victims, including Hind Rajab, a five-year-old killed by Israeli tank fire in Gaza.
