Retired Major General Tajudeen Olanrewaju, a former Minister of Communications and ex-GOC of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division, has raised strong objections to the ongoing renaming of historic streets and bus stops in Lagos State.
In a statement issued through his media office, the retired general described the move as a cultural affront and an inconceivable injustice to the city’s heritage. He warned that the replacement of legacy street names with unfamiliar identities risks erasing the historical fabric of Lagos.

Olanrewaju accused recently elected political leaders of acting without regard for the city’s roots, stressing that they hold office only temporarily and should govern with greater historical sensitivity.
While aligning with political activist Omoyele Sowore’s view that the renaming is politically driven, he criticised Mr. Sowore’s framing of Lagos as No Man’s Land, calling it a misreading of Lagos’ pre-colonial identity.
