Former VP Atiku Abubakar Condemns Invasion of Lagos State House of Assembly by Security Operatives

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the invasion of the Lagos State House of Assembly by security operatives on Monday. In a statement posted on his X handle, Atiku described the incident as “utterly reprehensible” and called for a full and thorough investigation into the matter.

Atiku expressed disbelief that the security operatives allegedly had a mandate to enforce a leadership change within the House, describing the situation as alarming. He further stated that the involvement of security forces in internal legislative matters was disgraceful and jeopardised the nation’s hard-won democracy.

The 2023 presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) criticised the actions of those who purportedly fought for democracy but were now complicit in undermining it. He emphasised that such actions must be thoroughly investigated to ensure the integrity of democratic institutions.

Atiku’s condemnation followed a viral video showing armed security operatives invading the Lagos State House of Assembly, a move that has sparked widespread concern over the growing militarisation of democratic processes.
