Four FIRS Staff Killed in Lagos Office Fire

The Federal Inland Revenue Service has confirmed the deaths of four senior staff in Tuesday’s fire at Afriland Towers, Broad Street, Lagos. The blaze reportedly started in an inverter room in the basement before spreading rapidly through the building.

A statement from the office of FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji named the victims as Assistant Directors Ekelikhostse George and David Sunday-Jatto, Senior Manager Nkem Onyemelukwe, and Manager Peter Ifaranmaye. They were working on the sixth and seventh floors when the incident occurred.

The service said it is in mourning and has contacted the bereaved families. Officials added that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire, while safety protocols at FIRS offices nationwide will be reviewed to prevent a repeat.
