One person has been killed and several others injured following an attack on a church in Lili, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State. Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the incident occurred on Sunday, adding that the church building was partly burned and other properties destroyed.

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the attack and described it as a serious affront to peace and freedom of worship. He extended condolences to the victims’ families and the Lili community, assuring that officers are pursuing all leads to arrest the perpetrators.

The Police Command said it has intensified intelligence-driven operations, deployed a Joint Security Team and increased surveillance across the area. Residents were urged to remain calm and provide any information that could support ongoing investigations.

Two suspects had earlier been arrested by the Special Anti-Cult Squad, and investigators say useful leads are being followed to track down those responsible.
