Families of Palestinian prisoners released under Israel’s latest exchange deal say their relief has turned to sorrow after learning many will be deported to third countries. According to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office, 154 of those freed on Monday will be exiled as part of a wider release involving 250 detainees from Israeli prisons and some 1,700 Palestinians seized during Israel’s war in Gaza.
Hamas and allied groups have also freed 20 Israeli captives under the ceasefire agreement. The destinations of the deported Palestinians remain unclear, though past cases saw transfers to Tunisia, Algeria and Turkiye.

Human rights experts have condemned the deportations as unlawful and inhumane, saying they strip Palestinians of their citizenship rights and effectively replace imprisonment with forced displacement.
