Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers has sworn in the 23 newly elected local government chairpersons in the state.
The swearing-in ceremony, which took place on Sunday at the government house in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital, had in attendance Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi state.
On Saturday, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission conducted the LGA elections despite the absence of security operatives, and declared the Action Peoples Party, APP, as the winner of 22 LGAs while the Action Alliance, AA, won one LGA.

On September 4, a high court in Rivers state held that RSIEC could conduct the LGA elections using the 2023 voter register.
