Nollywood actress and producer Funke Akindele has described herself as self-made, attributing her achievements in the film industry to years of hard work and dedication.
Speaking at the 2025 Media Sales Conference organised by the Media Independent Practitioners Association of Nigeria, MIPAN, in Lagos, Ms Akindele reflected on her journey to stardom, emphasising the effort required to sustain a career in entertainment.

While highlighting her personal drive, she acknowledged the influence of veteran musician D’banj, describing his role in her success as significant.
Akindele gained national recognition with her role in the educational drama ‘I Need to Know’, which aired between 1998 and 2002. However, her major breakthrough came in 2008 with the release of ‘Jenifa’, a film that cemented her status as one of Nollywood’s leading figures.
