Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has reflected on her early years in the film industry, revealing how she earned her first ₦1 million in 1999 through her breakout role as ‘Bisi’ in the hit TV series ‘I Need to Know’.
In a video shared on her X account, Akindele recalled starting out in 1996 with minor “waka pass” roles and enduring several rejections before landing her big break three years later. She described the milestone as a reward for persistence and faith.

The actress said the first person she informed was her mother, who advised her to pay her tithe before spending any of it. “I went straight to Yaba,” she added, recalling how she used the earnings to buy shoes and refresh her wardrobe after years of struggle.
