Gaza Aid Effort ‘Strangled’ Amid Mounting Crisis, Says UN Chief

The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has warned that humanitarian operations in Gaza are being “strangled”, with life-saving aid unable to cross into the territory.

Speaking in stark terms, Mr Guterres said food, medicine and shelter materials are piling up at crossing points but remain blocked from entry. He reminded Israel of its obligations under international law, as an occupying power, to ensure basic needs and health services for civilians.

The UN chief praised humanitarian workers still operating under fire in Gaza, calling them heroes for their courage and commitment.

He reiterated that the UN will not support any arrangement concerning Gaza that violates core humanitarian principles—humanity, impartiality, independence, and neutrality.

Guterres insisted that safe, unimpeded access must be granted immediately to avert further catastrophe in the besieged enclave.
