Former Chief of Defence Staff, Lucky Irabor, has dismissed claims that Boko Haram members are being recruited into the Nigerian armed forces. Irabor spoke during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday.
Lucky Irabor’s response followed comments by former deputy speaker Idris Wase, who recently alleged that past recruitment exercises uncovered Boko Haram members, armed robbers, and other criminals on military and police shortlists. Wase also claimed that former defence committee chair Muktar Betara could confirm the discovery.
Irabor said such allegations are impossible within the structure and processes of the military. He noted that he has always wondered where such impressions originated, stressing that the claims lack credibility.

The retired general added that his many years in top operational and command positions further prove that it is practically impossible for terrorists or criminals to infiltrate the armed forces.
