Nollywood star Genevieve Nnaji has criticised a viral social media post advising Igbo men to avoid marrying women from their own ethnic group. The post, shared by an X user, suggested that Igbo men should seek wives in East Africa to avoid false accusations of abusing their daughters.
Ms. Nnaji, who hails from Mbaise in Imo State, denounced the claim as dangerous and evasive. She argued that the message encouraged men to deflect responsibility rather than examine their own behaviour, warning that such thinking enables harmful conduct.

Amid online debate, some argued the post referred only to false accusers. Ms. Nnaji maintained her stance, stressing that broad generalisations about women are unsafe and unfair, noting that “not all women” should be painted with the same brush.
