Germany’s President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier [Frank Val-ter Shtine-maya], is set to arrive in Nigeria today, 10 December, for a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and fostering economic and cultural collaboration.
According to a statement from the German Embassy in Abuja, President Steinmeier’s visit will include high-level discussions with Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Alieu Touray, President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission.
The trip begins in Abuja, where talks are expected to focus on deepening diplomatic and economic relations between Germany and Nigeria. The German leader will then proceed to Lagos, Nigeria’s economic hub, where his agenda includes meetings with business leaders, a visit to a start-up innovation centre, and interactions with prominent cultural and civil society figures, including artist Nike Okundaye and Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka.

In Lagos, President Steinmeier will also explore urban development issues, gaining insight into the challenges and opportunities in Africa’s largest city. A delegation of German business leaders will accompany him, highlighting the emphasis on fostering stronger economic partnerships.
The visit concludes on 12 December.
