Ghana has agreed to accept migrants deported from the United States as part of President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown. President John Mahama said 14 people had already arrived under a bilateral arrangement with Washington.
He explained that nationals from West African countries would be received in line with the Ecowas free movement protocol, which allows citizens to enter and reside in member states without a visa for up to 90 days.

The first arrivals included several Nigerians and a Gambian, who were later assisted to return to their countries. Mahama said the US had asked Ghana to accept third-party nationals facing deportation.
The development comes as other African countries, including Rwanda, Eswatini, and South Sudan, have also received deportees. Rights groups have criticised the US policy, while Nigeria has rejected pressure to take in non-citizens.
