Gov. Fubara Warns Supporters Against Escalating Tensions

Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, says he is not desperate to return to office, warning that some actions by his supporters may be worsening the political situation in the state.

Speaking at a service of songs in Port Harcourt in honour of the late elder statesman Edwin Clark, Fubara said his spirit had already “left there,” in response to calls by speakers at the event who referred to him as governor and demanded his reinstatement. He cautioned that confrontational rhetoric could derail ongoing peace efforts.

The event was organised by the Rivers Elders Forum, where several dignitaries criticised Fubara’s suspension, which followed President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers in March. The president had appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas (rtd) as the state administrator following months of political unrest.

Fubara, in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, called on his supporters to adopt a more strategic and less combative approach as efforts continue to resolve the political feud between him and the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.
