Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered the immediate evacuation of residents and businesses around the burnt 25-storey Great Nigeria Insurance building on Martins Street, Lagos Island. The directive follows safety concerns after the building was gutted by fire on December 24.
The order was announced in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, who said experts deployed to the site found serious risks to lives and property within a 100-metre radius. He said several nearby structures had been compromised and must be vacated as a precaution.

The commissioner also raised concern over reports that some shop owners had breached the restricted zone around the site, warning that such actions were dangerous. He urged residents and business owners to comply fully with the evacuation directive in the interest of public safety.
