Gov. Sanwo-Olu Orders Probe into Lagos Classroom Collapse

A classroom block has collapsed at a public school in the Odo-Kekere community in Ikorodu, Lagos State, causing panic among residents but with no casualties reported. The incident happened on Thursday evening after school hours, according to the Lagos State Government.

The Lagos State Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools confirmed that the affected structure was a bungalow classroom block and said all pupils were safe. In a statement on Friday, the agency said the state government regretted the incident.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered an investigation into the collapse and directed that pupils be immediately relocated to nearby schools to prevent disruption to academic activities. The committee said the building had already been marked for demolition to allow for the construction of a more suitable classroom facility.

Officials of the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools are expected to visit the school for an on-the-spot assessment, as the government prepares plans for the construction of an ultra-modern classroom block to accommodate the school’s growing population.
