Gov. Soludo Orders One-week Shutdown of Onitsha Main Market Over Continued Sit-At-Home

The Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has ordered the immediate closure of the Onitsha Main Market and adjoining markets for one week to enforce compliance with the state’s directive against the Monday sit-at-home. The announcement was made on Monday while the governor addressed traders at the market in Onitsha.

Governor Soludo said the shutdown would be extended if traders failed to resume business after one week, warning that further closures could last longer. He described the sit-at-home as economic sabotage and said the measure was necessary to protect law-abiding citizens and reinforce the authority of the state.

The governor said the government would not tolerate continued defiance of official directives, stressing that markets and government offices are open across the state. He warned that any shop found closed on Mondays would be locked for one week, adding that traders must choose to either comply or relocate their businesses.
