Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, has pardoned Segun Olowookere, who was sentenced to death by hanging for stealing a chicken and some eggs in 2010.
In a statement released on Thursday, Governor Adeleke gave the prerogative of mercy to 53 convicts, including Mr Olowookere, and his co-defendant, Sunday Morakinyo.

Mr Olowookere’s story went viral recently, and it sparked public outcry after an interview granted by his parents, who claimed his innocence.
His father, Mr Olanrewaju Olowookere, claimed, during the interview, that a police officer allegedly requested a bribe of N30,000, out of which he was only able to raise N20,000 at the time.
