Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has called on residents living in flood-prone areas to move to safer ground as the state grapples with ongoing flooding. In a statement delivered on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Public Safety and Security, Kingsley Uwagbale, the governor emphasised the importance of relocating to Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, camps established by the state to prevent loss of life.

The commissioner highlighted that the state government has already identified safe areas and is urging residents to act now, rather than wait for the situation to worsen. He also said that additional emergency shelters will be set up within the next two to three weeks if needed.

To bolster the response, the state has released over N300 million to provide relief materials and has coordinated efforts with local government officials to ensure a smooth delivery of aid to displaced individuals. The funds are part of a wider emergency allocation aimed at supporting flood victims until the situation stabilises.
