Governor Peter Mbah Approves N80,000 Minimum Wage for Workers

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has approved a new minimum wage of N80,000 for workers, effective immediately. The announcement was made on Thursday at the Government House while receiving the report of the committee set up to review the state’s wage structure.

The governor further highlighted that the new wage aligns with his government’s policy to reduce poverty, emphasizing that a motivated workforce is key to achieving this goal.

In response to the new minimum wage, the Organized Labour in Enugu State, led by Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Chairman Fabian Nwigbo and Trade Union Congress (TUC) Chairman Ben Asogwa, praised Governor Peter Mbah for his efforts to improve the state’s living standards.

Additionally, Sydney Ede, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Enugu State and Nkanu East council boss, confirmed that council workers will also benefit from the wage increase.

Our correspondent, Chibuike Peter, reports that the new N80,000 minimum wage surpasses the national minimum wage by N10,000.
